Google’s Doc

Google has launched their Doc service! Doc is their release after they bought over Writely.

Pretty cool about it. Here’s what I like:

  1. Document can have a few collaborators.
  2. RSS feed for document changes.
  3. Document can be published on the Internet with a unique URL on google.com, or be published on your blog site. Blog sites include Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, BlogWare, BlogHarbor, SpaceSquare. Publishing your document is getting easier.
  4. Revisions of the document are maintained.
  5. Document format includes HTML, PDF, OpenOffice and MS Word.

Basic formatting features are there. I can’t imagine any new documenting programs without the basic features now.

Something that I would like to have:

  1. Ability to view the document in pages. This will be very helpful for page layouts if we can see the borders of the page, so that we know where it starts, where it ends.
  2. Ability to draw simple shapes so that we can format out some drawings.

Currently the features within are pretty much HTML-capable stuff, so document format conversions shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think they will yet encounter problems that OpenOffice faced.
